Leak: Realme Watch photos, specs revealed ahead of launch

The world of smart wearables has certainly been growing at a decent rate in recent times. And despite the economic and effects of the global COVID-19 pandemic, the company looks set to press on with plans for a first “smartwatch”, with the Realme Band already in the market. Realme India CEO Madhav Sheth earlier talked about the upcoming wearable in an interview—now, we have a first look at some renders of the smartwatch.

The rendered images confirm what we already know from Madhav’s interview: the Realme Watch looks remarkably similar to the Apple Watch. The leaked series includes images of the smartwatch, along with how the user interface (UI) of the smartwatch looks.

Have a look:

The images reveal that we could be seeing the Realme Watch in a variety of colours: black, white, yellow, and blue. The report also shares a few details regarding the specs of Realme’s smartwatch, including a 1.4″ TFT LCD touch display pushing a resolution of 320×320 pixels. The bezels appear to be fairly big, with the “realme” branding displayed on the bottom bezel of the smartwatch, loud and proud.

Battery life reportedly offers up to 7 days of battery life, even with continuous heart rate monitoring, while the device is certified for water and dust resistance at IP68. Other expected features include a heart rate sensor, blood oxygen sensor, and Bluetooth 5.0—however, there is the conspicuous absence of built-in GPS. This would certainly count against Realme’s first smartwatch, with many competitors such as the Huawei Watch GT 2e in the market packing GPS functionality.

Additionally, the leak also claims that the Realme Watch will not run on Google’s Wear OS; instead, Realme will use a proprietary smartwatch OS. This follows the trend set by other Chinese brands, with Huawei and and Honor utilising LiteOS on their smartwatches. This means that, if the report is to be believed, the Realme Watch will not have standalone app support.

Given Realme’s user base in India, the leaked images also show a UI screenshot where the system language is set in Hindi, along with Chinese and English language options. Other features include standard smartwatch capabilities: notifications, music control, reminders, and of course, compatibility with Android (and probably iOS) smartphones. There could also be 15 different exercise modes, from running to cricket, or even yoga.

At the moment, we aren’t sure when the Realme Watch will be launched. In fact, even the name “Realme Watch” hasn’t actually been confirmed—it just seems to be the most obvious choice right now. The smartwatch has, however, been confirmed to have passed through SIRIM‘s checks in Malaysia, which means that we could be seeing the Realme Watch hit the Malaysian market sometime soon.

Overall, the Realme Watch will be an interesting addition to the multitude of smartwatch options in the market right now. However, a crucial factor in the potential success of the smartwatch is certainly the UI that Realme develops, along with the yet-unknown pricing of the device. We’ll just have to wait and see.
