Telekom Malaysia has announced that the preventive maintenance works on the Asia-America Gateway (AAG) submarine cable have been completed at 4am this morning. As announced previously, the maintenance works had started on 17th April and it was completed within 5 days.
According to TM, the impact to customers during the maintenance period have been minimal due to proactive rerouting of traffic to alternative routes. TM had shared that the maintenance works may affect some internet services such as video conferencing, online gaming, VPN and instant messaging apps. Any potential service degradation not only affects users in Malaysia but also other internet users in the region.
The AAG submarine cable links Malaysia and other Asian countries to the United States and Hong Kong. It was previously announced that the maintenance works were necessary to prevent a potential breakdown in the future.
With the work completed, TM says data connectivity to sites and servers hosted in Hong Kong and the US are now fully restored. If there are any enquiries or assistance required, TM says its support team is readily available.
