Xiaomi Mi 10 and Mi 10 Pro will be announced in Malaysia this Wednesday

[ UPDATE 22/04/2020 10:30 ] The Xiaomi Mi 10 and Mi 10 Pro are now official in Malaysia. Priced from RM2,799. More details here.

If you’re looking forward to a new 5G flagship smartphone that’s big on sound, the Mi 10 series will be announced in Malaysia this week. Xiaomi Malaysia has confirmed that it will reveal two models, the Mi 10 and the Mi 10 Pro on the 22nd April 2020.

Unfortunately, there won’t be a live stream event and the device will be announced via press release. You can stay tuned to us the pricing and availability details or follow their updates through their Facebook page.

The Xiaomi Mi 10 and Mi 10 Pro are the company’s first 5G devices for our market and both are powered by a Snapdragon 865 processor. The two devices are expected to be probably the most expensive Mi devices yet in Malaysia and it will be priced higher than the Mi Note 10 and last year’s Mi 9 series.

Expected Mi 10 and Mi 10 Pro pricing

In China, the Mi 10 is priced from CNY 3,999 (about RM2,475) while the Mi 10 Pro is priced from CNY 4,999 (about RM3,094). As a comparison, the Xiaomi CC9e (aka Mi Note 10) 6GB RAM + 128GB storage version was priced at CNY 2,799 (about RM1,733) but it was launched here for RM2,099.

With the price difference, it is safe to expect the Mi 10 to be priced above RM2,500 while the Mi 10 Pro to cost more than RM3,000. This is probably the first time Xiaomi is entering Samsung, Oppo and Huawei pricing territory but you can expect the Mi 10 to offer greater value when it comes to audio, storage and battery capacity.

Mi 10 and Mi 10 Pro Hardware specs

The Mi 10 series ticks almost all the boxes that you would want on a flagship smartphone. Both devices feature a 6.67″ AMOLED display that pushes a Full HD+ resolution with a 90Hz refresh rate. In China, the Mi 10 series can be configured with up to 12GB of LPDDR5 RAM and up to 512GB of UFS 3.0 storage.

The devices also feature symmetrical stereo speakers with Hi-Res audio certification. The Mi 10 Pro currently has the best speakers on a smartphone according to DxOMark Audio‘s ranking.

In the camera department, the Mi 10 Pro features a 108MP main camera, 20MP ultra-wide-angle lens, 8MP telephoto camera with 10x hybrid zoom and a 12MP telephoto camera with 2x optical zoom. Meanwhile, the Mi 10 settles for a 108MP main camera, a 13MP ultra-wide-angle lens plus two 2MP cameras for depth and macro.

The Mi 10 Pro comes with a 4,500mAh battery while the Mi 10 gets a slightly larger 4,780mAh capacity. In terms of wired charging, the Mi 10 Pro supports 50W fast charging via USB-C while the standard 10 maxes out at 30W which is still pretty fast. Both devices can support 30W fast wireless charging along with reverse wireless charging.

If you’re looking for a more gaming-centric device, the Black Shark 3 will be announced in Malaysia on 30th April.
