Tesco lets you place orders via WhatsApp and collect the same day

Tesco introduces an ‘Order & Collect’ service, where customers can place orders for essential items through WhatsApp and collect them on the same day. The service is available in 53 out of 60 Tesco stores nationwide.

The store chain’s online delivery service was previously already an option customers can use during the ongoing Movement Control Order (MCO). However, with the addition of the ‘Order & Collect’ service, customers could potentially save some more time.

“At Tesco, we are working around the clock to help ensure families have access to the grocery and household items they need, especially more so now during the MCO. Customers will be able to more than halve their time shopping in our stores and maintain their social distancing,”said Chief Executive Officer, Paul Ritchie.

To use this new service, you can contact your nearest Tesco store and place an order through WhatsApp. Upon receiving your order, a Tesco Personal Shopper will advise on the estimated collection time and generate a personalised barcode for the total price through WhatsApp. Customers can then come to the selected Tesco store, proceed to a dedicated check-out counter for ‘Order & Collect’, present the barcode and pay either through cash, debit card, credit card or e-wallet.

It’s important to note that each Tesco store will only be able to take on the first 100 orders a day, with a maximum of 25 items per order so you’d have to order early. You can place orders via WhatsApp anytime between 8am to 4pm daily, with collections by 6pm on the same day.

If you’re interested to try out ‘Order & Collect’, click here for more info and to get the WhatsApp number for your nearest Tesco store. You can also look below for the numbers.

However, the service is currently unavailable in Tesco Extra Puchong, Extra Cheras, Extra Selayang, Desa Tebrau, Mutiara Damansara and KSL.

If you’d rather shop for the items yourself, you can download Tesco’s Scan & Shop app (Android, iOS) to speeds out the checkout process, as you won’t need to take out your items from your shopping cart and you can proceed with payment by showing a bar code.

Besides Tesco, Aeon also provides personal shopper services and drive-thru locations at a total of 28 outlets in Malaysia to help people shop during the MCO. Delivery platforms like FoodPanda and Grab also give you options like contactless deliveries to minimise risk and reduce human interaction.
