Soldiers wear helmets to shield themselves from urine is fake news

It was recently reported by mainstream news outlets that soldiers at enhanced movement control order (EMCO) areas had to wear helmets to protect themselves from urine and other projectiles thrown at them. Turns out that the story was fake as the Malaysian Armed Forces has denied the allegations.

Chief of Defence Force Gen Tan Sri Affendi Buang told Bernama, the MAF has never issued such a directive. He added that MAF personnel only wear helmets at areas declared to be under the EMCO, while elsewhere, it is as usual.

MCMC’s fact-finding portal sebenarnya.my had also debunked the allegation that was shared on social media. They added the Ministry of Defence statement which clarifies that helmets were not used to avoid urine from migrants at Selangor Mansion.

Meanwhile, Senior Minister Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob has issued a warning that stern action will be taken against news outfits that report confusing and inaccurate articles regarding government statements. He said that the government is taking this matter seriously because news which are false and inaccurate can confuse the public and cause people to worry.
