This is Huawei’s first OLED TV, and it has a giant pop-up camera

The development of HarmonyOS was expected to result in an alternative to Android for Huawei‘s smartphones, in light of the Chinese company’s issues with the U.S. government. However, Huawei’s OS—dubbed Hong Meng OS in China—extends beyond smartphones. Huawei’s idea is basically to have all of their products within the OS, with seamless transitions from one device to the next. Now, the company has announced the Huawei Vision X65 TV—the company’s first OLED TV.

For some context, this isn’t the first TV launched by Huawei. Last year, sub-brand Honor launched something similar, while Huawei has also launched a Smart TV previously. As per its name, the X65 will have a 65″ 4K OLED dispaly, with a peak brightness of 1000 nits and a wide colour gamut.

Interestingly, the X65 will also feature a 120Hz refresh rate, which could come in handy for gamers who wish to use the TV for console/PC gaming. The company also claims that this is the world’s largest display that is certified by the German TUV Rheinland—an eye care measure that certifies the compliance with safety standards.

Putting all of that aside for a second, I think that the first thing that will catch the eye is the pop-up camera mechanism on the top of the TV frame, which includes a 24MP ultra-wide angle shooter. This is something that was first seen in the Honor Vision; the camera can be used for video calls, while sensors can be used for air gestures—I’m guessing it will be similar to the gestures found on the Mate 30 Pro.

The TV is also powered by the Honghu 898, which is complemented with 6GB of RAM and 128GB of storage. The chipset is supposedly tailored for OLED displays, with AI-based optimisation for image quality. The X65 will also reportedly run on HarmonyOS, as expected, which means that the device will work in tandem with a variety of compatible smart home products.

From the images, it also looks like the Huawei Vision X65 has some pretty slim bezels, with a thickness of 24.99mm, while there are also 14 speakers with a total output of 75W—again, Huawei says that AI helps to provide a better experience with sound on the X65.

At the moment, the Huawei Vision X65 has only been launched in China, with no details on global availability revealed. Pre-orders started on the 8th of April, with the TV hitting shelves on the 26th of April.
