Huawei Watch GT 2e: Everything you need to know

Huawei have just launched the Huawei P40 series, and they’ve also quietly released a new smartwatch along with it: the Huawei GT 2e. From first impressions, the GT 2e appears to be very, very similar to the Watch GT 2—you’ve got the same Kirin A1 chip, the same 1.39″ OLED display, and the same impressive battery life estimate of 14 days.

But the Watch GT 2e appears to be Huawei’s attempt to connect to a more fitness-centric crowd, with the company saying that its new wearable is ideal for the “active lifestyle”. Consequently, that’s where the most notable upgrades are.

What’s new?

The Watch GT 2e features Sp02 monitoring with the help of an IR sensor—this will basically measure your blood oxygen saturation at any given point during workout routines.

VO2Max measurements will also measure the efficiency of how your body uses oxygen during exercise; this will give you a better idea of your aerobic fitness, and will help you measure your endurance.

Similar to the Watch GT 2, you’ll have access to bunch of different workout routines, and Huawei’s new smartwatch is also rated at 5ATM for water resistance (only for shallow-water activities).

While the GT 2e features an identically-sized display as the GT 2, it has a slightly thicker bezels, which means that the overall footprint of the new wearable is slightly larger at 53.0 x 46.8mm. And they’ve also included new TPU straps, which look rather similar to the Nike straps on the Apple Watch.

You also get the same physical buttons on the Watch GT 2e, and while it appears likely that the smartwatch will also have a built-in mic and speaker, given its similarities with the 46mm Watch GT 2 (the 42mm variant does not offer this).

The Huawei Watch GT 2e will reportedly be globally available in April, and will retail for EUR199 (about RM942). Colour options are comprised of a red, green, and white strap, although the watch case is on available in black stainless steel and stainless steel.

Meanwhile, Huawei has also announced a new Champagne Gold edition for the Watch GT 2, which will retail for EUR249 (about RM1,177) for the leather strap option, and EUR229 (about RM1,082) for the standard option.

The Watch GT 2e, at EUR200, is also priced at EUR50 below the launch price of the Watch GT 2, so perhaps this is an indication that the new smartwatch will have a more affordable price tag when/if it reaches the Malaysian market. Given Malaysia’s status as a key market for Huawei, this seems likely.

Huawei Watch GT 2e – EUR199 (about RM1,082)

Huawei Watch GT 2 (42mm)(Champagne Gold) – leather strap – EUR249 (about RM1,177)

Huawei Watch GT 2 (42mm)(Champagne Gold) – standard strap – EUR229 (about RM1,082)
