Geely use drones to enable contactless deliveries for new cars

With the current COVID-19 outbreak, social distancing is important to keep the virus at bay. We’ve seen food delivery services such as FoodPanda and GrabFood offering contactless delivery option and now Geely is adopting similar measures when it comes to new car delivery.

The Chinese automobile company had recently introduced an online sales system which allows buyers to customise their own vehicle specifications, select their own financing and insurance. The system also offers customers a home delivery option which is convenient for those who do not wish to collect their new ride from the physical dealership.

To reduce direct interaction, Geely is using drones to pass the keys directly to the new car owners at their doorstep or car park, and this is to ensure there’s a safe distance between its staff and customers at all times.

According to Geely, they have received over 10,000 consumer orders from their online platform and there are more than 110,000 users that have registered their interest to buy a Geely vehicle.

As shown in the video above, the new vehicles will be thoroughly disinfected while some interior components are covered in preparation for home delivery. The car will be transferred to the customer’s premises with a flatbed truck before handing over the keys with a drone.

In case you’re wondering, the vehicle shown in the video is the Geely Icon which was launched last month. The compact SUV claims to be the first mass-produced car with an N95 certified intelligent air purification system (IAPS). The system was developed in response to the COVID-19 outbreak and it works in tandem with the car’s air conditioning system to isolate and eliminate harmful elements in the cabin air.

The vehicle is powered by a 1.5L 3-cylinder turbo engine with the option of being paired to a 48V mild-hybrid system. When combined, it can produce up to 140kW (187hp) of power and 300Nm of torque.
