Amidst the Movement Control Order uncertainty, this website gives hope for Malaysians

Malaysians are in a tough spot right now. The movement control order albeit restrictive is the only way we can stop the number of increasing cases. The exponential growth of COVID-19 cases will reduce if there is less contact between people. Although this seems like a tough time and it truly is, there is a glimmer of hope.

#Kitajagakita is a platform that is designed to connect people who want to help people who are badly affected by the COVID-19 pandemic as well as the movement control order. The website provides access to many different organisations that are doing their part to help people.

Individuals can choose to provide cash and food donations to organisations like Mercy Malaysia, The Lost Food Project, The Hospital Cleaner’s Union, among others. Funds will go directly to these organisations to buy food and supplies for underprivileged communities as well as those working tirelessly during this crisis.

For others who can and are able, they can choose to volunteer with CAREmongering Malaysia to get groceries for families, to pick up prescriptions from pharmacies for people who would otherwise not able to travel, among others. You can also choose to register as a volunteer with Mercy Malaysia, to register, please contact Ain: 019-3140769.

Individuals who need support can reach out to the Women’s Aid Organisation for domestic violence survivors, their services are available virtually. Anybody who needs assistance with accommodation can reach out to Accommodation Assistance by FKPB. However, they only have male vacancies remaining. Individuals who need counselling or just someone to talk to, please reach out to Befrienders KL at 03-79568145. The Women’s Centre for Change’s hotline is still available to help women and children, the organisation is based in Penang.

As much as this is a truly unpleasant predicament for all of us, we can still do our best to be there for one another. Please do help if you are in a position to and please do check out #Kitajagakita for more information on the different organisations that you can donate to or volunteer with.
