All Tesco Malaysia stores to remain open, use Scan & Shop for faster checkout

Tesco Stores (Malaysia) Sdn Bhd has announced that all of their 60 stores will remain open during the Movement Restriction Order between 18th to 31st March 2020. The hypermart chain also assures that they have sufficient stocks and will continue to replenish essential products in its stores to meet the demand during this period.

Tesco CEO Paul Ritchie said “We are also working closely with our suppliers to maintain the supply of all key products especially fresh and frozen food, grocery and essential non-food items. We ask customers to shop as they normally would and buy only what they want and their family needs.”

“We understand the concern but buying more than needed can sometimes mean that others are left without. There is enough for everyone if we work together,” he added.

For a hassle-free shopping experience, shoppers are recommended to use their Scan & Shop app which was launched last month. The app allows shoppers to scan their items and get pricing details, and it will also allow faster checkout.

When you’re done with your shopping, just generate the bar code from the app and show it to the cashier to proceed with payment. The benefit is that you won’t need to remove your items from your basket or trolley and there’s no need for the cashier to scan each individual items. The feature also works at self-service checkout counters. The Scan & Shop app is available on the Apple AppStore and Google PlayStore.

For greater convenience, shoppers may also shop online via Tesco Online or via HappyFresh. However, Tesco has imposed a limit of 3 units per item to ensure efficiency in delivery.

To ensure safety for their shoppers, Tesco Malaysia will take additional measures such as regular disinfection of its trolleys, check-out counters, delivery trays, equipment and all high traffic areas. Customers are urged to practice social distancing while in-store.
