[Update] TNG RFID accepted at all PLUS and LPT2 highway toll plazas from 1st April

[ UPDATE 11/03/20 20:50 ]: PLUS has provided more details about RFID usage, PayDirect and using different payment methods for entry and exit points. We’ve added more info at the end of this post.

====

As announced earlier, RFID payments will be accepted at all 83 closed-toll systems along the North-South Expressway from 1st April 2020. The RFID support will also include LPT2 highway along the East Coast.

Previously, PLUS supports RFID only at 10 open-toll systems from 1st January 2020 but it is finally available at all remaining toll plazas starting next month. To recap, on a close-toll system, your toll charges are calculated based on the entry and exit points while open-toll system charges you toll when you pass a section on the highway. The implementation of RFID on these highways are inline with the Government’s vision of a Multi-Lane Free Flow (MLFF) and to promote cashless transactions for tolls.

According to PLUS, there will be a total of 173 RFID lanes with 131 being dedicated RFID lanes at 83 toll plazas on PLUS highway. For road users that are still using Touch ‘n Go card and SmartTAG, they are still supported to facilitate the migration towards RFID within this year.

At the moment, the RFID is only managed via TNG eWallet which you can reload via credit or debit card and online banking. It was reported earlier that CIMB Group and PLUS will soon roll out an open payment facility which allows multiple cashless payment options for the RFID system.

[ UPDATE 11/03/20 20:50 ]: PLUS has provided more details on PayDirect, RFID usage and other payment methods.

At the moment, PayDirect is not yet supported on PLUS and LPT2 highway. The feature which allows you to use your physical Touch ‘n Go Card to deduct toll charges from your eWallet is expected to be introduced later.

Customers must use the same payment method for both entry and exit points. If you enter via RFID, you must exit via RFID. The same goes for Touch ‘n Go and SmartTAG. Failure to do so may result in a Long Journey Time penalty.

If there’s an issue with RFID tag reading at the toll plaza, PLUS has handheld RFID readers to assist customers.

RFID Fitment Centres

If you haven’t gotten an RFID tag yet, there will be 17 RFID Fitment centres available along the PLUS highway from 13th March 2020 onwards. The locations are:
