Samsung: Is Find My Mobile “1” notification related to a recent data breach issue?

Last week, a significantly large number of Samsung Galaxy users have received a mysterious notification on their devices. It came from the Find My Mobile feature and all it showed was just double “1”. Following the incident, it was reported there was a data breach over at Samsung which exposes personal details of users.

Several outlets have linked the data breach to the Find My Mobile notification but Samsung has clarified that the two incidents are unrelated. In a statement released to Sammobile, the Korean smartphone maker has emphasised that the notification does not affect their devices in any way. It was initially reported that the notification was part of an internal test that was sent out unintentionally.

With regards to the data breach, Samsung spokesperson had confirmed to The Register that it was an issue on their website and it affected a “small number” of users in the UK. Apparently, when some people logged in, their registered account details were different and it was showing other strangers’ personal info. It is estimated that less than 150 customers were affected according to a Samsung rep.

It was also reported that Samsung will be contacting users that are affected by the issue with further details.
