Alongside the company’s new folding phone and their new iPad Pro MatePad Pro, Huawei also refreshed their lineup of laptops business-y laptops, the MateBook series. The new devices come with refreshed specs and a new coat of paint, but not that much else which isn’t necessarily a bad thing.
On the outside, not much has changed from the predecessor, but for my money the MateBook X Pro comes with very desirable hardware anyway, so I wouldn’t be too upset. There is, however, a new coat of green paint as one of the colour variants, and you also get faster internals.
The processors have been updated to Intel Core i7-10510U and Core i5-10510U CPUs that are based on the 14nm++ process. These are quad core processors with hyper threading that can boost up to 4.9GHz, but still come with just 15W TDPs.
On the display front, nothing much has changed, as the device still packs the high-resolution 13.9″ touchscreen display with a 3000×2000 pixel resolution. It features a max brightness of 450 nits and a 1500:1 contrast ratio. I would have loved to see an OLED panel option too, but it doesn’t appear to be the case.
You can get up to 16GB of RAM with this model as well as spec it to feature a discrete Nvidia GeForce MX250 graphics card with 2GB of VRAM. Then, obviously, since it’s the MateBook X Pro, you also get the recessed pop-up webcam in the keyboard that offers privacy protection, but also looks up your nose when you use it.
On top of the refresh to the high-end MateBook X Pro, Huawei also released their new MateBook D 15 and D 14 laptops. If you’ve been following the company diligently, you’ll probably know that these devices have already been launched in China but are now entering the global market.
These are the company’s budget laptops, and they’ll come with either Intel or AMD processors. You’ll get the choice between Intel’s Core i5-10210U and Core i7-10510U processors on the Intel side, while the AMD Ryzen 5 3500U CPU will also be an option on team red.
Unfortunately, memory only goes up to 8GB of RAM, but at least you can configure it with a sizable 512GB of internal SSD storage, plus the 15″ model will also come packing space for an additional hard disk drive. If it’s like the current drive, it will probably be a 2.5″ drive so you could also slap another SSD in further down the line if you want.
