Samsung Galaxy Z Flip: Everything you need to know

The Samsung Galaxy Z Flip is the second foldable smartphone to be released by Samsung after the original Galaxy Fold. This time, it is a compact flip-phone and here’s what we know so far from the extensive leaks shared by reputable sources.

Price and availability

The Galaxy Z Flip will retail for USD1,380 (~RM5,700) than the Samsung Galaxy Fold which is priced at RM8,388. The device is expected to be revealed during Samsung Unpacked alongside the Samsung Galaxy S20 and it could go on sale as early as 14th February in the US.

Similar to the Motorola Razr, the device will be released first in the US before hitting other markets. Since the Galaxy Fold was sold in Malaysia, it is also likely that the Z Flip will be offered locally as well.

Galaxy Z Flip specs

The Galaxy Z Flip will features a 6.7″ Infinity Flex AMOLED display that comes with a tiny punch-hole for a 10MP selfie camera. The screen uses something called Ultra Thin Glass (UTG) which is a proprietary Samsung technology. The hinge has been rated for 200,000 flips, and Samsung even added a protective layer of fibres to keep dust out. Meanwhile, the top cover comes with a small 1.1″ always-on AMOLED display that shows the time and important notifications. It can also function as a screen for selfies.

What makes it unique is that it has a three-stop hinge that allows the phone to stay open at certain angles which makes it easier to vlog or to take a selfie when placed on a flat surface. The phone also has a dual-camera setup which consists of a 12MP main camera and a 12MP ultra-wide-angle shooter.

Despite its compact form factor, the Galaxy Z Flip will run on Snapdragon 855+ processor with 8GB of RAM and 256GB of UFS 3.0 storage.

As you would expect, the device comes with a rather modest 3,300mAh battery that is rated to last a full day. It can also support fast charging via USB-C as well as Qi Wireless charging. It also gets a side-mounted fingerprint sensor, however, there’s no 3.5mm headphone jack.
