Touch ‘n Go eWallet is now enabling cashless payments at key heritage streets around George Town, Penang. With the support of the Penang State Government, the eWallet is now supported across stalls and hawker joints such as Chowrasta Market, Armenian Street, Nagore Street and areas in Pulau Tikus and Tanjung Tokong.

TNG Digital CEO, Ignatius Ong said “Enabling these heritage streets is the continuation of our long-term commitment to drive Penang forward by empowering locals to experience a more convenient, safer and hassle-free way of transacting in their everyday lives.” He added that Touch ‘n Go eWallet aims to play an active role in supporting the economic growth of Penang through the facilitation of a digital payment system for local merchants. Homegrown small merchants such as hawker joints and mamak operators are expected to benefit greatly as the eWallet aims to help them to innovate and stay relevant in the current market landscape.

The eWallet acceptance at these small businesses is in line with the Penang State Government’s agenda of Penang 2030 that focuses on improving the liveability, economy, civil participation and balanced development to achieve a ‘Family-focused, Green and Smart State’. Cashless transactions will eliminate the need for paper transactions or receipts and its exclusive key features can contribute to Penang’s journey towards a more connected and smart city.

According to Penang Chief Minister, Chow Kon Yeow, there will be more collaborations with TNG Digital such as LinkBike and eGovernment services. Touch ‘n Go eWallet has also established partnerships with Penang startups such as MULA and DeliverEat, which uses the eWallet as a payment channel. The eWallet provider aims to triple its merchant base in Penang within the coming year and they currently have 110,000 merchants nationwide with 7 million users.
