Samsung Galaxy S10 Lite to be announced next month, powered by Snapdragon 855

[ UPDATE 4/1/2020 00:00 ] Samsung Galaxy S10 Lite and Note 10 Lite are now official. Learn more here.

Samsung is expected to reveal two new smartphones at CES 2020 which is happening at Las Vegas from the 7th January next year. Apart from the Samsung Galaxy Note 10 Lite, the Korean smartphone maker is said to be also announcing the Galaxy S10 Lite. The new S10 model is expected to be positioned between the 5.8″ Galaxy S10e and the 6.1″ Galaxy S10.

According to the Korean Herald’s report, these are Samsung’s new lineup of mid-range Galaxy phones that will be heading to emerging markets. The Galaxy S10 Lite and Galaxy Note 10 Lite will come with lower specs and a lower price tag to compete with Apple’s “affordable” iPhone XR and iPhone 11. The report mentions that the new “Lite” devices are expected to be announced first in India next month.

Reliable leakster @OnLeaks had dropped a couple of clues for the Galaxy S10 Lite which could be marketed as the Galaxy A91 for certain countries. In terms of design, it looks similar to the upcoming Galaxy S11 flagship as it comes with a huge rectangular camera bump at the rear.

It is speculated that the device which carries the model number SM-A905 will feature a flat 6.7″ Full HD+ Super AMOLED panel that has a punch-hole for the selfie camera. This is similar to the upcoming Galaxy Note 10 Lite.

Instead of an Exynos unit, the device is said to be running on a 2019 flagship-class Snapdragon 855 processor. It will be paired with 8GB of RAM and 128GB of storage.

While the base Galaxy S10e comes with a dual-camera setup, the new Lite model is expected to feature a triple-camera array that has a 48MP main camera, an 8MP ultra-wide-angle lens and a 5MP telephoto camera. Interestingly, it is also speculated that it will come with a new Tilt OIS feature for image stabilisation.

Similar to the Note 10 Lite, there’s also a 32MP selfie camera and a large 4,500mAh battery. Interestingly, it is rumoured to support an even faster 45W fast charging via USB-C. At the moment, the Galaxy S10e is still officially priced at RM2,699 while the S10 is going for RM3,299. Since the Galaxy S11 reveal is just a few months away, we expect the Samsung Galaxy S10 Lite to be priced way below the RM3,000 mark.
