Sony A6600 is now available in Malaysia

While I was doing research for an upcoming gift guide (foreshadowing), I was looking for a couple of things to fill in the camera section of the guide when I stumbled across something I didn’t expect. The Sony A6600 was finally available in stores! But, its price might be a little bit shocking.

Back when Sony officially pulled the covers off their latest APS-C camera, I pretty much lost it. On paper, it looked like it was practically the perfect camera for me. That’s because, on top of including pretty much everything that I loved from the Sony A6400, Sony also upped the ante by adding a couple of key features.

First, the A6600 has in-body image stabilisation (IBIS), which was something I wished was also on Sony’s more affordable body. Then, there’s also the fact that the A6600 also switched up its batteries, utilising the bigger Z packs from their A7 full-frame cameras so it gets an awesome CIPA rating of 810 shots with the LCD and 720 shots with the EVF. On top of that, this camera also has a 3.5mm headphone jack so you can monitor audio.

But, with all of these updates, the Sony A6600 also comes with a pretty hefty price tag. In Malaysia, you will have to fork up a whopping RM6,199 for the body only, and RM7,999 if you want to pick it up with the 18-135mm kit lens.

That’s dancing dangerously close to what you’d pay for a proper full-frame Sony A7 III, especially if you’re willing to dig a little for a good deal.

Of course, from the way I look at it, I think the A6600 will probably be better for my needs because I shoot myself probably as often as I shoot other people. Having a screen that flips up, Sony’s gorgeous oversampled 4K video, a headphone jack, a mic jack and a big battery all in a tiny body is a killer proposition.

What do you guys think of the Sony A6600’s price? Let me know in the comments below.
