With the arrival of cellular versions of the Apple Watch, you are able to receive calls and stream Apple Music to your earphones from your wrist without having your iPhone with you. This is great if you’re going out for a walk and you are still reachable via LTE. To enable this, you’ll need an eSIM with number sharing and Digi is the only telco in Malaysia to offer it with its AirSIM service.

According to Digi’s website, the AirSIM service costs RM10/month and it is applicable to Digi postpaid plans (RM80/month and above), except for Digi business. If you’re on prepaid, you will need to convert your plan to postpaid. As an introductory promo, they are offering the Digi AirSIM number share service for free for 6 months from the point of registration. This free subscription offer ends on the 30th of April 2020.

Another prerequisite is to enable VoLTE. This is to allow voice calls to be delivered over the 4G network instead of switching down to 3G.

To set it up is pretty easy and since the Apple Watch uses an eSIM, there’s no need to fiddle around with physical SIM cards. After pairing the Apple Watch to your iPhone, just launch the Apple Watch App, then tap on Mobile Data and proceed set up the plan with the instructions on the screen. Once that’s done, your mobile number and data will be shared across both iPhone and the Apple Watch.

The service is compatible with the devices listed below and you can use it on both the Apple Watch Series 3 and Series 5 variants that support 4G LTE. You must update to the latest iOS and watchOS version before you proceed.

If you’re interested to get the latest Apple Watch 5 with LTE, Digi is now accepting pre-orders from RM79/month. This is tied to Digi’s PhoneFreedom 365 instalment program on a 24-month contract and the watch will be available officially on 1st November 2019. The Apple Watch 5 is officially priced from RM1,749 for the GPS variant and RM2,199 for the GPS + Cellular version.

To find out more, check out their AirSIM page.
