Redmi Note 8 is coming to Malaysia and it’s the Pro version

The new Redmi Note 8 Pro is coming very soon and this could be Malaysia’s first quad-camera smartphone to feature a 64MP main camera. The device was announced in China last month and it was released in Spain just a few days ago.

Xiaomi Malaysia has not revealed the pricing and availability details just yet but they have confirmed that it will definitely come with a 64MP main camera. Looking at the European spec-sheet, it looks similar to the Redmi Note 8 Pro in China.

The device comes with a 6.53″ Full HD+ display and it runs on a MediaTek Helio G90T octa-core processor that claims to outperform a Snapdragon 710. To keep things cool, it also gets a liquid cooling system for better thermal management. For international markets, it appears to come with just 6GB of RAM and with up to 128GB UFS2.1 storage that can be expanded via a microSD card.

For imaging, the rear gets a quad-camera setup that consists of a 64MP main camera that uses a large 1/1.7″ image sensor from Samsung. There’s also an 8MP ultra-wide-angle camera, a 2MP ultra-macro lens and a 2MP dedicated depth sensor. In front, the tiny notch houses a 20MP f/2.0 selfie camera.

Powering the Redmi Note 8 Pro is a large 4,500mAh battery that supports 18W fast charging via USB-C. Also retained is a 3.5mm headphone jack, an infrared blaster and NFC.

In Spain, the Redmi Note 8 with 6GB RAM + 64GB storage is priced at 249 EUR (about RM1,146) while the 128GB storage variant is going for 269 EUR (about RM1,238). Do note that European pricing is usually more expensive and we think that it could be priced under RM1,000 in Malaysia for the base model.
