MacBook Pros with recalled batteries are banned from US flights

The US Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) has banned certain MacBook Pro units that could pose a fire safety risk. These laptops will not be permitted on flights as cargo or as in carry-on luggage by passengers.

A few weeks ago, The European Union Aviation Safety Agency had issued a safety notice for the recalled MacBook Pro and they urge passengers to keep it switched off and not to charge the device when it’s taken on board.

The battery issue affects a limited number of 15″ MacBook Pro units that are sold between September 2015 to February 2017. Apple has issued a recall program notice in June and they offer free battery replacements for affected customers.

You can check if your MacBook Pro is affected by searching for your serial number here. If your device is listed, Apple wants you to stop using it immediately and follow the instructions provided on their site. The replacement service may take 1-2 weeks and you are urged to back up your data before sending it in.
