Honor 9X is launching on 23 July with a couple of surprises

Shortly after Huawei unveiled its Nova 5 series, its sub-brand Honor is about to launch its new mid-range smartphone lineup for 2019. Honor’s President, George Zhao, has posted on Weibo that the Honor 9X is launching very soon and the event is taking place at Xi’an on the 23rd July.

According to George Zhao, the Honor X series has always set a new industry standard starting with the Honor 7X that features a FullView display at an affordable price point. For the upcoming Honor 9X, he indicated that you can expect improvements in performance and speed, and there will be more surprises to come.

Since this is their mid-range device, you can expect the Honor 9X to run on the latest 7nm Kirin 810 processor. The Nova 5 with the Kirin 810 processor had gone through Antutu’s benchmark tests and they found it to be a better performer than the Snapdragon 730 processor.

In terms of specs, it is speculated that the Honor 9X will come with a large 6.5-6.7″ display and it will feature a triple-camera setup that consists of a 24MP main, 8MP ultra-wide-angle and 2MP depth sensor. The device is said to be retaining the same 3,750mAh battery as its predecessor and it comes with a standard 10W charger.

Apart from that, there’s also a better equipped Honor 9X Pro that comes with a similar quad-camera setup as the Honor 20. It is rumoured that the Pro variant will come with a 48MP Sony IMX 582 sensor, an 8MP ultra-wide-angle shooter, a 2MP depth sensor and a 2MP macro camera. The battery is slightly bigger too at 4,000mAh and it comes with a faster 20W charger.

When the Honor 8X was launched with a retail price tag of RM949, it was one of the most affordable smartphones with 128GB storage in Malaysia. It will be interesting to see if the Honor 9X can retain its sub-RM1,000 pricing especially when there’s a serious contender like the Xiaomi Mi 9T.
