Xiaomi Mi Band 4 with a colour display will be announced tomorrow

The Mi Band is one of the world’s most popular fitness trackers and it has helped to propel Xiaomi as the #2 wearable brand according to IDC. After almost a year, Xiaomi is finally releasing the Mi Band 4 and it now comes with a colour display.

Like its predecessor, the Mi Band 4 will still come with a built-in heart-rate sensor and it is expected to retain the same 50-metre water resistance. The colour display appears to push a rather high resolution for a fitness band since it has enough space for notification icons and a battery level indicator on the top bar. In another teaser picture, the Mi Band 4 is capable of displaying QR codes which can be used for eWallet payments.

We could be mistaken but it seems like the Mi Band 4 isn’t using an AMOLED display. If you look at the teaser images, you can still see the edges of the display despite having a black background. An AMOLED screen will produce better blacks compared to LCD, as it can turn off individual pixels.

[UPDATE 11/06/2019 23:20]: The Mi Band 4 uses a 0.95″ colour AMOLED display.

We still don’t have the full details of the device but you can be assured that the Mi Band will be priced very competitively against other fitness bands in the market. The closest competitor with a colour display at the moment is probably the Honor Band 4 which is currently going for RM149. Another alternative is the Xiaomi-backed Amazfit Band 2 that’s priced at RM199. Meanwhile, Samsung Malaysia has just introduced its new Galaxy Fit that features a full-colour AMOLED display but it’s priced much higher at RM369.

The Mi Band 4 will be unveiled tomorrow, 11th June in China. Since Xiaomi has also teased the fitness band on its global Twitter page, we can expect it to be available for international markets very soon.
