Huawei committed to provide security updates to all devices

Following the recent reports that Huawei will be denied access to several Google services, the Chinese smartphone maker has issued a statement on the matter. Huawei assures that users will continue to receive security updates and after sales services for its existing Huawei and Honor devices. This include devices that have been sold or are in stock worldwide.

Below is Huawei’s statement in full:

Huawei has made substantial contributions to the development and growth of Android around the world. As one of Android’s key global partners, we have worked closely with their open-source platform to develop an ecosystem that has benefitted both users and the industry.

Huawei will continue to provide security updates and after sales services to all existing Huawei and Honor smartphone and tablet products covering those have been sold or still in stock globally.

We will continue to build a safe and sustainable software ecosystem, in order to provide the best experience for all users globally

A few hours ago, Android has tweeted that existing Huawei devices will be able to utilise existing services like Google Play as well as security from Google Play Protect.

If you’re using an existing Huawei device, there shouldn’t be any impact on your usage at the moment. This includes access to Google Play and other services such as Gmail, YouTube, Google Maps and etc.
