OPPO announces ColorOS 6 — UI specific for bezel-less devices

In conjunction with the fifth anniversary of ColorOS, OPPO announced that the latest version of its mobile firmware — ColorOS 6.0 — will be released sometime next year. At the same event, OPPO also announced that there are more than 250 million ColorOS users in over 140 countries, currently.

OPPO claims that its latest UI is designed for bezel-less phones in mind but don’t worry, it doesn’t mean that it will not work on older OPPO devices. It’s just that the firmware will be optimised with more features specific for bezel-less devices. The list of supported devices, however, has not been released.

So what are the significant changes that OPPO will bring with ColorOS 6? For one, the new UI uses gradient colours more extensively, instead of plain white which can be found on the current interface, ColorOS 5.2. Based on the teaser image shared by OPPO, we can see that the colours of the new UI gradually transitions to white towards the bottom of the screen.

Besides that, ColorOS 6 will also introduce a new font type called the OPPO Sans. The new font is made in collaboration with the Chinese font firm, Hanyi.

Performance wise, we can also expect some improvements over the last UI. ColorOS 6 has built-in machine learning that helps make the device more power efficient whereby it suspends regularly used applications instead of letting them run in the background. The OS will analyse your app usage for two weeks and learns which apps you use frequently. With this new feature, OPPO says that the overall power consumption will be reduced by 7%.

According to OPPO, ColorOS 6 will begin rolling out to supported devices next year but there are no details mentioned on which devices will be receiving this update.
