Xiaomi store expansion sets new world record

Xiaomi which started as an online-centric brand known for its crazy flash sales is aggressively expanding its presence offline. In India, Xiaomi had set a new Guinness World Record for the most stores launched simultaneously on 29 October 2018. They opened more than 500 Mi Stores across India at the same time.

India is Xiaomi’s biggest market outside of China and they have dominated the market thanks to its affordable Redmi series. At the moment, Xiaomi is currently India’s #1 smartphone brand. According to the latest IDC report (Q3 2018), they command a 27.3% market share with 11.7 million smartphones shipped in the last quarter. They have overtaken Samsung which now has a 22.6% market share in India.

Globally, Xiaomi is still ranked #4 according to IDC. In Q3 2018, they had shipped 34.3 million smartphones with a market share of 9.7%.

This year they have also expanded aggressively across Europe with stores opening in Spain, Italy and France. Their latest market is the United Kingdom and they will be opening their first store in Westfield, London.
