You can use RapidKL’s unlimited-ride passes beginning 1st January 2019

The Malaysian government is introducing unlimited-ride passes for public transportation as announced during Budget 2019. This initiative aims to increase ridership on our existing public transport network as well as to reduce congestion on the road.

Malaysians can utilise the unlimited-ride passes which covers both RapidKL rail and bus services beginning 12:01am on 1st January 2019.

According to Transport Minister, Anthony Loke, the passes will be offered only to Malaysians and they carry a 30-day validity. For example, if you start using the pass on 5th January, the validity will end on 3rd February.

The RM100 unlimited-ride pass cover RapidKL operated rail and bus services which include LRT, MRT, monorail and BRT lines. KTM Komuter services are not included. There’s also a RM50 unlimited-ride pass which only covers RapidKL buses throughout the Klang Valley.

The passes can be activated using the Touch ‘n Go feature on your existing MyKad, MyTentera and MyKid identification cards after the official launch next month. You can subscribe the unlimited-ride pass at all LRT and MRT stations. Alternatively, you can also activate this at the four bus hubs located at Shah Alam, Greenwood (Gombak), Sri Nilam (Ampang), and Kajang.

The government had allocated a total of RM240 million per year to subsidise these passes. According to Anthony Loke, it will cost the government RM1 million per month to subsidise 10,000 passengers on rail and RM500,000 per month to subsidise 10,000 passengers on the bus network. He added that the unlimited-ride passes are expected to benefit at least 45% of rail users and 100% of bus users in the Klang Valley.
