Android Pie 9.0 is the latest and arguably the best version of the Android at the moment. It comes with a host of enhancements like new gesture-based navigation, better battery management features built in, and even a digital wellbeing monitor that tracks the time you spend looking at your device and recommends time limits so you don’t waste your life just looking blankly into a screen.
So Android Pie is definitely going to be awesome and if you’re a Nokia owner — specifically the Nokia 5.1 Plus, 6.1 and 6.1 Plus users — you’ll be happy to know that you will be getting Android’s latest and greatest software very soon if the tweets from Juho Sarvikas, the Chief Product Officer HMD Global (the company that makes Nokia phones), are anything to go by.
From what we’ve observed, Nokia has already confirmed that the Nokia 6.1 Plus and 6.1 will receive Pie this month, while the Nokia 8 and 8 Sirocco will get the update in November.
So what about the affordable Nokia 5.1 Plus? According to HMD product chief Juho Sarvikas, the device should also be getting the Android Pie by the end of the year. We know this because Sarvikas recently replied to a tweet saying that he would be surprised if the Nokia 5.1 Plus is not getting the Android 9 Pie update anytime soon. However, a tweet from a personal account can’t always be taken as an official word from a company, hence it is best if we take this information with a pinch of salt. But HMD has so far kept its promise of rolling out Pie to their devices. The Nokia 7.1 Plus for example, is the first Nokia device to receive Android Pie. The next Nokia phone that is expected to receive the update is the Nokia 6.1 Plus which is now is Android’s Beta Program.
The Nokia 5.1 Plus was announced in Malaysia last month. The device is expected to be in Malaysia sometime this month though Nokia has not revealed the price of the device just yet, but we should be getting more details then.
To recall, the Nokia 5.1 features a notched 5.8-inch HD+ that pushes a resolution of 1520X720 pixels in a 19:9 aspect ratio. Powering the device is an octa-core MediaTek Helio P60 processor mated with 3GB of RAM and 32GB of expandable storage and a 3,060mAh battery which charges via a USB-C cable.
In terms of camera, the Nokia 5.1 sports a dual camera setup with 13MP f/2.0 main shooter and 5MP depth sensor. For selfies, it gets an 8MP f/2.2 camera sitting inside the big notch. Similar to the other Nokia devices out there, the 5.1 Plus is also part of the Android One program.
