Huawei is stepping things up with their upcoming Mate 20 series which will be announced next month. It will be running on their new 7nm Kirin 980 chip and you can expect it to come with wireless charging as standard.
On most smartphones, the wireless charging feature usually works one way and that’s only to charge the device itself. Now it appears that Huawei might be the first smartphone to allow two way wireless charging on the Mate 20 series.
According to serial leakster, Roland Quandt, Huawei will be introducing its new Huawei Freebuds 2 Pro together with the Mate 20. This is a Bluetooth 5.0 wireless earbuds which are similar to Apple’s AirPods. It comes in a “dental floss” looking case which can be recharged wirelessly. As shown above, you can charge it on a charging pad and what’s interesting is that you can also charge it on the Huawei Mate 20 Pro itself.
Of course, wireless charging is more of a convenience and you can also charge it faster via USB-C. According to Roland, it takes about 2 hours to charge both the case and earbuds fully via cable while wireless charging will take about 3 hours. While it supports Qi Wireless standard, there’s no mention of the Mate 20 Pro’s wireless charging power output. Perhaps, it’s only sufficient enough to support smaller devices like wireless earphones and maybe a smartwatch. Nevertheless, this is a pretty interesting feature as you won’t need to carry extra cables to charge multiple accessories while traveling.
Roland also added that the Freebuds 2 Pro supports Hi-Res Audio with bitrates of up to 560Kbps. Apparently, it can last up to 3 hours per charge and with the case, you can get a total listening time up to 20 hours. The Freebuds 2 Pro also uses bone conduction and AI to enhance the clarity of your voice conversations and it also comes with Google Assistant support. These wireless pair is speculated to be priced about 150-160 Euros (about RM730-770).
