Maxis ONEBusiness Fibre from RM99/month: 3 things you need to know

Yesterday Maxis had announced their new affordable fibre broadband plans for both home and business users. Not only it’s significantly cheaper than before but Maxis has undercut other broadband players when it comes to unlimited fibre broadband offering.

Malaysia’s most affordable fibre broadband plan for business

To recap, Maxis ONEBusiness Fibre plans start from as low as RM99/month for 30Mbps connectivity with no quota limits. Business broadband plans are typically more expensive and the subscription fee could cost twice as much compared to home broadband plans. For Maxis, it only costs RM10/month extra on top of their new home broadband plans.

For larger businesses, Maxis also offers a 100Mbps option at RM139/month and that’s cheaper than what other broadband providers are charging for home users (TIME 100Mbps at RM149/month). In terms of speed, take note that the 30Mbps plan offers 30Mbps for uploads but for the 100Mbps plan, the upload speed is half at 50Mbps.

TIME Fibre for Business

If we compare with TIME Broadband, their most affordable business plan is 20Mbps (with 20Mbps upload) at RM238/month but it’s now going for RM188/month (first 24 months) with their on-going promotion. Meanwhile, their fastest option is 100Mbps (with 100Mbps upload) at RM398/month and it’s currently on offer at RM348/month (first 24 months).

TIME provides two landlines with their business plan and their higher 50Mbps and 100Mbps options are bundled with RM500 worth of calls that are valid for the first 12 months. Any subsequent calls are charged at 11 sen/minute for fixed and mobile numbers within Malaysia.

Unifi BIZ Plans

Over at TM, their entry-level Unifi BIZ Lite with 10Mbps connection is going for RM199/month. If you need faster speeds, TM is offering their 100Mbps BIZ Pro Plan at RM399/month but you only need to pay RM329/month for the first 12 months with their current promo.

Calls are not included with these three plans and they charge 20 sen/minute to all fixed and mobile lines within Malaysia. If you do make calls, they are offering Simple Voice Plus packs of RM50/month and RM70/month. On SVP70 (RM70/month), mobile calls are charged at 8 sen/minute while SVP50 (RM50/month) is charged at 12/minute. All local calls including TM fixed lines are free of charge with these add-on packs.

Free Unlimited Calls for 100Mbps plan

Unlike TIME and TM, Maxis ONEBusiness Fibre offers free unlimited calls to all fixed and mobile numbers in Malaysia on their 100Mbps plan. For the base 30Mbps option, you can also enjoy unlimited calls with an RM10/month add-on, which brings up the monthly subscription to RM109/month.

Always-on connectivity with backup 4G LTE connectivity

For greater peace of mind, Maxis ONEBusiness Fibre is the only mainstream broadband provider to offer a zero downtime proposition using a wireless backup connection. This is great for internet dependent businesses.

The provided router comes with a built-in 4G LTE SIM which will be activated automatically when there’s a service interruption. This is similar to the Maxis’ ONE Prime home broadband offering.

We’ve reached out to Maxis Business customer service for further clarification and were told that the backup 4G connectivity has a quota of 300GB. This should be sufficient to cover a few days of downtime if it does occur.

If you’re interested, you can find out if your office is covered with their coverage checker. Since Maxis shares the same infrastructure as TM’s HSBB, you should be able to subscribe to Maxis Fibre if TM Unifi is available at your area.

The new cheaper broadband plans will be available from 13 September 2018. If you can’t wait, Maxis says that you can subscribe to their existing plans (32Mbps at RM258, 100Mbps at RM398) and they will pro-rate the charges until the 13 September before switching to the new rate. As usual, all plans are tied with a 24-month contract.

It is worth pointing out that TM will revise their fibre broadband plans for business while TIME has yet to respond to the latest price cuts for broadband.
