If you’re looking for a gaming-oriented smartphone from honor, the wait is nearly over. The honor play which is a flagship smartphone that’s larger than the honor 10 will be launched in Malaysia very soon. Here’s a sneak peek of what to expect.
At first glance, the honor Play looks very similar to the Huawei Nova 3. It has a similar exterior design except that it uses a full unibody metal exterior instead of a shimmering glass panel at the back. The front gets a similar 6.3″ Full HD+ display with a notch that pushes a resolution of 2340×1080. Under the hood, it runs on a top of the line Kirin 970 processor which is the same unit that’s found on the honor 10 and Huawei P20 series. The device also gets 4GB of RAM and 64GB of onboard storage which is still expandable via microSD.
For better gaming, it has GPU Turbo enhancement which offers higher graphics performance on games such as Mobile Legends and PUBG Mobile. There’s even an AI-enabled Smart Shock 4D experience which basically offers adds a “dual-shock” vibrating effect to your game based on image and sound recognition.
When it comes to photography, the honor play is a notch below other Kirin 970 powered smartphones. Although the camera bump looks similar to the Huawei P20 and Nova 3, the rear gets a 16MP f/2.2 + 2MP f/2.4 dual-camera setup that’s powered with AI camera features. Meanwhile, the front gets a 16MP f/2.0 selfie shooter that offers bokeh and 3D Lighting effects. Powering the device is a 3,750mAh battery which supports fast charging via USB-C.
In China, the honor Play with 4GB RAM and 64GB storage is priced at 1,999CNY (about RM1,195) which is pretty good value for the hardware it offers. As a comparison, the honor 10 is priced at 2,999CNY (about RM1,794) for the 6GB RAM + 128GB storage version and in Malaysia, our 4GB RAM + 128GB storage unit is priced at RM1,599.
The official Malaysian price for the honor Play will be revealed at their launch event that’s happening on 7 August at Sunway Pyramid. Stay tuned to us for the latest details.
