Mi Max 3: A larger 6.9″ phablet with a huge 5,500mAh battery

For those looking for a smartphone that’s big, good and affordable, the Xiaomi Mi Max series always ticks the right boxes. If you’re looking for a newer phablet, Xiaomi has just introduced the Mi Max 3, and it’s bigger and better in every way.

As leaked earlier, the Mi Max 3 gets a larger 6.9″ display (Mi Max 2: 6.44″) that pushes a Full HD+ resolution of 2160×1080 in an 18:9 screen ratio. Despite the bigger screen, the Mi Max 3 is slightly narrower than the Mi Max 2 thanks to its thinner bezels. In terms of design, it looks like a bigger Redmi Note 5 but with a nicer metal unibody exterior.

Powering the device is a more powerful Snapdragon 636 processor that’s mated with up to 6GB of LPDDR4x RAM and has eMMC 5.1 storage of up to 128GB. Storage can be expanded further via a hybrid dual-SIM slot.

It also gets a familiar looking dual-camera setup at the rear with AI assistance. It gets a 12MP f/1.9 main camera with dual PDAF and a secondary 5MP shooter for depth of field effects. For selfies, it has an 8MP f/2.0 front camera with a soft LED flashlight.

The large screen device also offers stereo audio playback and there’s also a 3.5mm headphone jack on top. Powering the Mi Max 3 is a huge 5,500mAh battery (Mi Max 2: 5,300mAh) which supports Quick Charge 3.0 via USB-C. Bundled with the device is a 9V 2A fast charging brick. The Mi Max 3 weighs 221g and has a thickness of 7.99mm.

The 4GB RAM + 64GB model is officially priced at 1,699CNY (about RM1,020) while the 6GB RAM + 128GB storage model is going for 1,999CNY (about RM1,200). It’s currently available in China but we reckon that Xiaomi will be releasing this on our shores at a later date.
