Huawei Nova 3 & 3i Malaysia: Everything you need to know

Huawei has just launched their brand new mid-range duo, the Huawei Nova 3 and Nova 3i, in Malaysia. These are AI-powered handsets with quad cameras and a gorgeous new glass and metal body. Here is everything you need to know.

Pricing and Availability

Huawei’s Nova 3 is priced at RM1,899 while the Nova 3i is priced at RM1,249. The Nova 3i will be available at Huawei Experience Stores, display zones, authorised dealers and major telcos starting the 28th of July 2018. Huawei’s Nova 3 though, will be hit shelves beginning the 17th of August. The Nova 3 and Nova 3i will come in a special two-tone Iris Purple colour. But, if that’s not your style, the Nova 3 is also available in Black and Red while the Nova 3i has White and Black as alternative colour options.

On the 28th of July, Huawei will start its sale of the Nova 3i at IOI City Mall in Putrajaya. If you’re among the first 1,000 customers to purchase a brand new Huawei Nova 3i at the Huawei Experience Store in IOI City Mall, you’ll receive a Huawei Bluetooth earpiece, a Huawei A2 Band and a Nerd Unit T-shirt as well as a bunch of other co-branding offers worth up to RM1,000, while stocks last.

During this roadshow, new customers can also purchase the Huawei Nova 3i with the 12-month, 0% interest easy payment plan. You can actually make the payments in six or 12 months and is applicable to all Citibank, HSBC Bank, Public Bank, Maybank, CIMB Bank, Am Bank and Hong Leong Bank credit card users.

Much like the Nova 3e that launched in May, the Nova 3 and Nova 3i will also have the same kind of reward system. This time they’ve partnered with a whole bunch of brands like Sunway Lagoon, Celebrity Fitness, Viu, KL Fashion Week, Grab, Nerd Unit, Starbucks, Lazada, AirAsia Vidi Travel and AirAsia Big Points for rewards worth up to RM1,000. These promotions are valid until the 31st of December 2018. Click here for a full list of these rewards.

Specs

Of the two phones, the Huawei Nova 3 is definitely the more capable device. This handset packs a top-of-the-line Kirin 970 processor inside, mated to 6GB of RAM and 128GB of internal storage (expandable via microSD). There’s a 3,750 mAh battery inside that charges via USB-C with support for 9V2A fast-charging.

On the flip side, the Nova 3i features the company’s brand new mid-range Kirin 710 processor mated to 4GB of RAM and 128GB of internal storage. This phone features a smaller 3,340 mAh battery that charges via microUSB. Unfortunately, it doesn’t come with a fast-charging brick.

Since these phones are also designed for gaming, Huawei’s also included a bunch of gaming-centric features that includes no interruptions during gaming and AI that’s specifically designed for mobile gaming. What’s more, the phones will receive Huawei’s GPU Turbo software update from the 8th of August 2018 0nward. This will apparently give you 60% more GPU performance while reducing power consumption by 30%.

Huawei also split the phones by their camera performances. Although both feature quad cameras, the Nova 3 has a 16MP RGB + 24MP Monochrome dual camera at the back with an f/1.8 aperture lens with a 24MP + 2MP selfie shooter up front. On the other hand, the Nova 3i packs a 16MP + 2MP dual camera at the back with the same kind of 24MP + 2MP selfie shooter up front.

That said, both devices do feature the same kind of glass and metal body, two-tone blue and purple colour scheme and the 6.3-inch Full HD+ notched display. Oh, both phones also retain the 3.5mm headphone jack which is always a nice little “yay” moment.
