After introducing the Nokia 7 Plus in Malaysia, Nokia will be introducing another affordable mid-range smartphone for our local market. This is the Nokia 6 for 2018 which is also known as the Nokia 6.1. The device was first launched in China and it’s a significant step up from last year’s model.
Similar to the predecessor, the new Nokia 6 (2018) is made from a single block of series 6000 aluminium which gives it a more premium look and feel. It gets a two-colour anodisation process and it adds copper-like highlights around the sides and camera bump.
The front gets a 5.5″ Full HD IPS display in a traditional 16:9 format and under the hood, it runs on a 2.2GHz Octa-Core Snapdragon 630 processor that’s mated to 4GB of RAM. Storage comes in either 32GB or 64GB capacity which can be expanded via microSD using a hybrid dual-SIM slot.
The Nokia 6 for 2018 now gets a rear-mounted fingerprint sensor and there’s also a 16MP f/2.0 PDAF main camera with ZEISS optics. It also supports Bothie where you can shoot a split-screen video using both front and rear cameras. For selfies, it comes with a front facing 8MP f/2.0 shooter.
Powering the device is a 3,000mAh battery and it charges via USB-C. It supports fast charging and it’s capable of pushing up to 50% charge in just 30 minutes. Out of the box, it runs on Android 8.1 Oreo with a stock experience. It’s also part of the Android One program which guarantees software updates for at least 2 years.
According to retailer DirectD, the Nokia 6 (2018) will be priced at RM1,100 and we are getting the 4GB RAM + 64GB storage option in Malaysia. From the listing, it comes only in black and it will be available on 2 July 2018. Would you get this over the Redmi Note 5 and ASUS ZenFone Max Pro? Let us know in the comments below.
