Huawei’s approach of making more premium devices and its partnership with Leica have really paid off. The Chinese smartphone maker has reported having shipped a total of 6 million units of the P20 and P20 Pro smartphones since its launch in late March this year.
According to Kevin Ho, the president of Huawei’s handset business, the latest flagship devices have helped to drive shipments up by 81% year on year during the 10 week period compared to last year’s P10 series.
Shipments within Greater China have increased by 63% while international markets enjoy a higher 150% increase. He attributed the success to Huawei’s pursuit for better photography experience on a smartphone.
Despite having a slightly higher price tag compared to its previous model, the P20 and P20 Pro are a significant step up from the P10 series. Apart from the usual processor and screen upgrades, the P20 Pro features an impressive triple camera setup that combines a high-resolution 40MP main camera, a 20MP monochrome sensor and an 8MP shooter that offers 3X Optical zoom with optical image stabilisation. On top of that, both models in Malaysia are offered with 128GB of storage as standard.
The Huawei P20 Pro with a triple-camera is currently priced at RM3,112, while the dual-camera P20 is going for RM2,452. Both prices are listed with the new 0% GST rate.
