Samsung’s new Galaxy A6+ (2018) comes with a 24MP selfie camera

Samsung will be introducing the Galaxy A6 and A6+ (2018) very soon. For an early peek, Roland Quandt of winfuture.de has dropped more clues of these new mid-range smartphones. As seen in the previous leaks, the Galaxy A6 and A6+ appear to be a slightly more affordable device that’s positioned below its current Galaxy A8 and A8+ (2018).

Instead of glass, the Galaxy A6 and A6+ uses metal for the back and it has a similar design as the newer Galaxy J series. The fingerprint sensor is mounted at the back with a similar camera module + fingerprint sensor placement as the Galaxy S9 and Galaxy A8.

Both models get a primary 16MP main camera with f/1.7 aperture lens while the A6+ has an additional 5MP f/1.9 camera for depth of field effects. With the dual-camera setup on the Galaxy A6+, you can take pictures with bokeh effects with its Live Focus feature.

For selfies, the Galaxy A6 features a front-facing 16MP f/1.9 camera while the bigger A6+ gets a higher resolution 24MP f/1.9 shooter. In low light situations, it has screen flash with LED assistance.

In terms of specs, the Galaxy A6 gets a 5.6″ HD+ Infinity Display that pushes 1480×720 pixels resolution. Meanwhile, the bigger Galaxy A6+ gets a 6.0″ Full HD+ display (2220X1080) which is similar to the Galaxy A8+. Both are using Super AMOLED displays with an 18.5:9 aspect ratio.

According to Roland, the Galaxy A6 series is powered by Samsung’s Octa-Core Exynos 7870 processor with 3GB of RAM and internal storage of 32GB. A higher-spec variant is also available with 4GB RAM and 64GB of storage. If you need more, there’s the option to add a microSD card up to 256GB.

Similar to most Galaxy models that come in pairs, the smaller A6 has a 3,000mAh battery while the A6+ gets a larger 3,500mAh capacity. You still get a headphone jack, Bluetooth 4.2 and NFC. Samsung Pay is said to be supported as well. According to the leaked promo material, there’s also Dolby Atmos audio enhancement but it is unlikely to be stereo since it has a speaker grill on the right side of the device.

The Galaxy A6 is expected to be priced around 300-340 EUR (RM1,426-RM1,616), while the A6+ would hover around 360-400 EUR (RM1,711-RM1,901). Do note that European pricing is typically higher than Malaysia so expect it to be cheaper once it goes on sale locally. According to Roland, both models would be available from May onwards.
