Facebook wants you to buy and sell your stuff in their Marketplace

If you’re sick and tired of dealing with low-ballers and cheap people who are constantly asking for the “best price” for your secondhand products on websites like Mudah and Carousell, there’s good news!

Now you’ve got a whole new platform for you to list your secondhand products and deal with even more low-ballers and cheap people asking for the “best price”, because Facebook has just launched “Marketplace” in Malaysia!

As its name would suggest, Marketplace is a microsite in Facebook that’s designed to facilitate the buying and selling of products through the social media platform. But, beyond just allowing you snap photos of and list your products, Marketplace will also apparently let you know what similar items are selling for near you when you make your sale post.

Marketplace is available on desktops, tablets and the Facebook app. In the app, all you need to do is look for the little house icon at the bottom of the app (on iOS) or at the top of the app (on Android). If you’re using the web browser, you should be able to find Marketplace on the left side of the Facebook page.

One of the biggest benefits we can identify when you use Facebook’s Marketplace over the other marketplaces is that you can leverage Facebook’s significant audience to sell or buy a particular product.

Beyond that, we can’t really tell because as of right now, the website that’s linked in the Facebook Malaysia post isn’t working. We hope this will be a problem that will be addressed shortly because we’re definitely interested in trying this out.

What do you guys think of Marketplace? Let me know in the comments below.
