Lazada reveals when the Redmi Note 5 is going on sale in Malaysia

This is it! The Xiaomi smartphone you’ve been waiting for is coming to Malaysia very soon. The Redmi Note 5 was spotted on the SIRIM database and now the official online store has teased that it will be hitting Malaysia next week.

We know Xiaomi is launching the Redmi Note 5 this week in Indonesia and it won’t take too long for them to release this affordable mid-range smartphone on our shores. If you take a peek at the official Mi Store on Lazada Malaysia, they have indicated that it will be available on 24 April.

The Redmi Note 5 is the true successor to the popular Redmi Note 4 which many would agree is the best value for money smartphone you can get for less than RM1,000. It was launched as the Redmi Note 5 Pro in India but in other parts of the world, it will be known as the Redmi Note 5.

To recap on the specs, the Redmi Note 5 comes with a 5.99″ Full HD+ display in a taller 18:9 display aspect ratio. Under its full metal body is a more powerful Snapdragon 636 processor that’s mated with up to 6GB of RAM and 64GB of storage. Like its predecessor, it gets a rather generous 4,000mAh battery which charges via microUSB.

Assuming that it follows the same specs as China’s version, it will get a 12MP f/1.9 + 5MP main camera and a front facing 13MP f/2.2 selfie camera. Out of the box, it runs on Android 8.0 Oreo with the latest MIUI skin on top.

In China, the base 3GB RAM + 32GB storage Redmi Note 5 is priced at 1,099 CNY (about RM680) while the 4GB RAM + 64GB storage option is going for 1,399 CNY (about RM866). The top of the line 6GB RAM + 64GB storage variant is going for 1,699 CNY (about RM1,051). We will get a better price indication after the Indonesian launch.

Thanks ManJun for the tip!
