Western Digital introduces a microSD card designed for CCTV use

You probably heard of WD Purple hard drives that are designed for 24/7, always on security systems. Now they have just announced the WD Purple microSD card for devices with continuous real-time duty.

With more surveillance devices that come in smaller size, most businesses would require a storage option that offers high endurance. This is where the WD Purple microSD card comes in as it is made to withstand long hours of continuous video recording for up to 2 years.

It supports up to 1,000 PE cycles and the biggest 64GB microSD card has an endurance rating of up to 64 TBW (Terabytes Written). The WD Purple MicroSD has a Speed Class 10 and UHS Speed Class 1 rating with a sequential read speed of up to 80MB/s and sequential write speed of 50MB/s.

The WD Purple microSD card is also humidity resistant and it can withstand extreme temperatures between -25 to 85 degree Celsius. On some surveillance cameras, there’s a compatible card health monitoring feature which will let you know when it’s time to replace your microSD card and perform necessary storage management.

The WD Purple MicroSD card comes in either 32GB and 64GB capacities and they are officially priced at RM99 and RM159 respectively in Malaysia. It will be available in single and convenient 25-packs for surveillance system installers.
