The Xiaomi smartphone you’ve been waiting for has been spotted on SIRIM

Xiaomi‘s new smartphone is coming to Malaysia and it’s the one you’ve been waiting for. Sure, flagships are cool, but for a lot of us, the mid-range is where the money’s at. It’s the one we can actually afford and with how good they’re getting, it can get pretty hard to justify paying so much more for a top-of-the-line handset.

And I don’t think anyone makes better mid-rangers than Xiaomi does. So get hyped because it looks like the Xiaomi Redmi Note 5 is coming to our shores very soon.

The Chinese company’s upcoming mid-ranger was spotted on SIRIM recently which is a big indication that the smartphone will be going on sale here very soon. With the Indonesian launch coming in just 10 days, it looks like we’ll be getting it very soon after. There is just one small problem.

We’re not quite sure which variant of the Redmi Note 5 we will be getting. Last year, Xiaomi mixed things up a little when they launched the Redmi 5 and 5 Plus. In India, the Redmi 5 Plus basically relaunched as the Redmi Note 5 and the company unveiled yet another more capable version called the Redmi Note 5 Pro with dual cameras.

Then, in China, Xiaomi launched another Redmi Note 5 which has roughly the same specs as India’s Redmi Note 5 Pro but with a tweaked camera. This version comes with a 12MP f/1.9 aperture + 5MP dual-camera setup at the back with a 13MP f/2.2 aperture selfie shooter in front. India’s Redmi Note 5 Pro, on the other hand, has a dual camera setup but with an f/2.2 aperture lens on the main camera instead. In front, India’s version also comes with a 20MP f/2.2 aperture selfie shooter.

The rest of the specs, including the 5.99″ Full HD 18:9 aspect ratio display, Snapdragon 636 processor, up to 6GB of RAM and 64GB of internal storage. Keeping the lights on is a 4,000 mAh battery. One final little difference though, is the fact that the China Redmi Note 5 comes running Android 8.0 Oreo instead of Nougat.

Besides the Redmi Note 5, Xiaomi’s brand new wireless charger has also made an appearance on SIRIM. Oddly, the Mi MIX 2S which launched with the wireless charger — and was designed to be used with that charger — has not been spotted.
