The mid-range Xiaomi smartphone you’ve been waiting for could be revealed tomorrow

Looking for a Redmi Note 4 successor? This could be it. After it was speculated that Xiaomi might drop its Redmi “Note” moniker, it appears that the Redmi Note 5 device could be announced tomorrow on Valentine’s Day. The big reveal is happening in India and it has been a year since the current Redmi Note 4 for international markets was launched.

From what we are seeing so far, it’s more than just an international variant of the current Redmi 5/Redmi 5 Plus models. The standard Redmi Note 5 is said to come with a 5.7″ FullHD+ display and it runs on a Snapdragon 625 processor that comes with either 3GB RAM + 32GB storage or 4GB RAM + 64GB of storage. It will get a single 12MP main camera at the rear, while the front comes with a 5MP selfie shooter. Like the current model, it will get a 4,000mAh battery and it runs on MIUI 9.5 that’s still based on Android Nougat.

What’s interesting is its higher spec Redmi Note 5 Pro which will come with dual-cameras. It’s rumoured to feature a larger 5.9″ FullHD+ display and will run on a newer 14nm Snapdragon 636 processor with Kryo 260 cores. For the first time on a Redmi series, it’s also suggested that it will get 6GB of RAM and 64GB of storage. There’s also a lower spec variant that comes with 4GB RAM + 64GB of storage.

For imaging, the rear camera is said to come with a 12MP + 5MP camera combo while the front gets a high resolution 20MP selfie camera. The battery might be the same as the standard Redmi Note 5 with a 4,000mAh capacity.

From the teaser video above, it looks like Xiaomi is also launching its smart TV for the Indian market. You can see a reflection of a large screen and the ending visual shows a large panel with thin bezels. If this is true, this is the first official release of its Mi TV outside of China and we are guessing it could be running on Android TV.

However, looking at the replies by Xiaomi India’s social team, it is clear that they will be launching a device with the number 5. Even its Managing Director has teased an ultimate all-rounder 5UPERHERO device will be unveiled on 14 February 2018. Looking at the specs above, we expect this new model to be priced higher than the current Redmi Note 4 and Redmi 5/5Plus models. Everything will be revealed tomorrow at noon in India which is about 2.30PM Malaysian time.

Leaked specs and render

Before the Redmi Note 5/5 Pro is revealed tomorrow, it’s purported leaflet has leaked online. From the looks of it, the Redmi Note 5 Pro appears to come with a vertical dual camera bump that’s similar to the iPhone X. It looks quite legit but we’ll have to wait until tomorrow to find out how it really looks like.

Thanks rshh for the tip!
