Samsung to launch the Galaxy S9 next month at MWC 2018

In the past few launches, Samsung had revealed their Galaxy S and Galaxy Note series at their own Samsung Galaxy Unpacked events in New York. For the upcoming Galaxy S9, it appears that Korean smartphone maker is definitely making a comeback at the world’s biggest mobile show in Barcelona.

As rumoured earlier, the Galaxy S9/S9+ will be announced at Mobile World Congress 2018 that’s taking place starting on 26 February 2018. As reported by ZDnet, Samsung Mobile business President, DJ Koh, has confirmed that their first flagship smartphone of the year will be unveiled at the trade show in February. This is also an indication that the Galaxy S9 could go on sale as early as March this year.

When asked about their upcoming foldable phone, DJ Koh shared that the launch is planned for next year with production to begin sometime later this year.

He also shared that their new Bixby 2.0 virtual assistant will be launched in 2018 and it will be supported on all Samsung devices by 2020. Although Samsung embarked on AI later than others, they are confident in providing the best experience. In ZDnet’s report, DJ Koh added that many companies have AI competence but not many have hardware competence.

The Galaxy S9/S9+ have been leaked extensively in the past few months. From what we’ve seen, the design is a minor upgrade when compared to the current Galaxy S8/S8+ series. You still get an Infinity Display and the Galaxy S9+ appears to pack a couple of extras to differentiate itself from the smaller S9.

The Galaxy S9+ is expected to come with a dual-camera setup at the rear which is similar to the Galaxy Note8 and it is said to come with better internals with 6GB RAM and 128GB of storage. The fingerprint sensor is still mounted at the back but they have repositioned it below the camera lens. The Galaxy S9/S9+ will be powered by Samsung’s new Exynos 9810 chip and for the US market, it will run on Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 845 processor.
