The next Huawei P-series flagship might get 3 cameras at the rear

With 2017 coming to an end, most smartphone manufacturers are busy with their upcoming flagships for the first half of 2018. Chinese smartphone maker, Huawei, is expected to release a new model to replace its current P10 series and there’s a possibility that it might not be called the P11.

Reliable leakster @evleaks has stumbled upon a couple of artwork which allegedly is for Huawei’s new flagship smartphone. From the looks of it, this could be their biggest upgrade yet in the imaging department.

Firstly, the name is shown as the Huawei PCE series which could be a new naming convention for its mainstream flagship or perhaps it’s a new photography-centric series like ASUS ZenFone Zoom. It’s also possible that PCE is just a dummy placeholder to hide its actual name of Huawei P11.

What’s interesting is the description at the bottom of each image. Continuing its collaboration with Leica, the Huawei PCE is listed with a Pro Triple-lens Leica camera setup that’s capable of producing 40MP image and has 5X Hybrid Zoom.

For selfies, it also teased with a Pro Selfie camera that can produce a higher resolution 24MP image with greater clarity in low light. The artwork also indicates a better low light performance in Pro Night Mode and there’s also AI assistance for faster scene recognition.

At the moment it is hard to validate if any of these features are true so do take it with a pinch of salt. Having a triple camera at the rear is quite an overkill and if it is meant for bokeh effects and telephoto zoom, they could have done something similar to OPPO’s 5X concept dual-camera smartphone. That does 5X Optical Zoom with OIS in a periscope design.
