OnePlus is turning four next month and to celebrate the occasion, they have released the OnePlus 5T in Lava Red. This is a brand new colour that’s exclusive to China for now.
In terms of hardware, it is similar to the normal OnePlus 5T. You get a 6.01″ FullHD+ AMOLED display and it runs on the top of the line Snapdragon 835 processor that is mated to 6GB or 8GB of RAM. Storage is non-expandable and it comes in either 64GB or 128GB capacity options.
For taking photos, the 5T is using a different dual-camera setup from the OnePlus 5. It now has 16MP+20MP main cameras that come with a faster f/1.7 aperture lens. There’s no tele-photo lens and OIS but it does come with EIS for steadier video recording. Meanwhile, the front gets a 16MP f/2.0 front shooter.
Powering the OnePlus 5T is a 3,300mAh battery that supports fast Dash Charging via USB Type-C using a supplied 5V/4A power brick. There’s also NFC, Bluetooth 5.0, 2×2 MIMO Dual WiFi and dual Nano-SIM card slots.
Since this is a Chinese unit, this OnePlus 5T runs on HydrogenOS 3.7.0 instead of OxygenOS that’s found on global units. Underneath the skin, the custom OS is still running on top of Android 7.1.1 Nougat.
In China, the 6GB RAM and 64GB storage model is priced at 2,999 CNY (about RM1,865), while the higher spec 8GB RAM and 128GB storage variant is priced at 3,499 CNY (about RM2,176). Overall, it is much lower than its US pricing. So far there’s no word of its Malaysian availability but if you’re interested in this red OnePlus 5T, you probably might be able to get it through our local grey importers.
