During the official opening ceremony of its Mi authorised store at Suria KLCC, Xiaomi has announced the official availability of the Mi MIX 2 and the Redmi Note 5A Prime in Malaysia. The Mi MIX 2 is their flagship smartphone that comes with a 5.99″ 18:9 bezel-less display and a premium ceramic back while the Redmi Note 5A Prime is their affordable 5.5″ phablet alternative.
Mi MIX 2
The Mi MIX 2 is officially priced at RM2,199 and they are bringing the base variant with 6GB RAM and 64GB of storage. Pre-orders will be available on 11 November with stocks expected to available on 16 November. You can pre-order your unit from Lazada as well as Authorised Mi Stores.
To recap on the specs, the Mi MIX 2 has a 5.99″ IPS FullHD+ display that pushes a resolution of 2160×1080. It’s smaller than the original MIX that came with a 6.4″ display with a 17:9 display aspect ratio. Under the hood, it run on a 2.4GHz Snapdragon 835 processor with 6GB of LPDDR4x RAM. There’s 64GB of storage which unfortunately isn’t expandable.
The MIX 2 comes with a single 12MP Sony IMX386 camera that comes assisted with 4-axis OIS while the front gets a 5MP selfie shooter. Powering the device is a 3,400mAh battery which supports quick charging via USB Type-C. You can learn more in our first impressions.
Redmi Note 5A Prime
Meanwhile, the Redmi Note 5A Prime is priced at RM699 and it comes with 3GB RAM and 32GB of on-board storage. It will be available on sale in Gold and Gray starting 11 November 2017 on both online and offline channels.
Spec-wise, it is an upgraded version of the Redmi Note 5A that was released in Malaysia last month at RM549. It still has a 5.5″ HD 720p display and it runs on a Snapdragon 435 processor. Unlike the standard Redmi Note 5A, this prime version has a higher resolution 16MP f/2.0 selfie camera while the rear gets a 13MP f/2.2 main shooter.
If you use dual-SIMs, you’ll be happy to know that the Redmi Note 5A Prime comes with triple slots so you can add a microSD while having two SIMs inserted at the same time. It also comes with a 3,080mAh battery which is similar to the non-Prime version.
For those who need something with more performance, you might want to consider getting the Redmi Note 4 instead. It is officially priced at RM799 for 3GB RAM and 32GB of storage but you probably could get it much lower online.
