Google’s very own smartphone, the Google Pixel, is getting a new successor early next month. They have just released a teaser video and a registration of interest website which points to 4th October as the launch date.
Without revealing too much, the teaser video throws a couple of questions which are probably asked frequently by smartphone owners. This covers battery life, camera quality, performance, “smart features”, software updates and more. Essentially, Google is hinting that their upcoming Pixel 2 will be the ultimate smartphone worth waiting for.
To recap on the original Google Pixel, it is Google’s very own smartphone that’s designed end to end. As a comparison, the Nexus lineup is jointly developed with partners, which is why you can see it being sold via their channels (e.g. Nexus 6P via Huawei, Nexus 5X via LG). When it first came out, it was rated the best smartphone camera rated by DxOMark. It’s also the first smartphone to come with Google Assistant.
Available in two sizes (5″ and 5.5″), both runs on a high-end Snapdragon 821 processor with 4GB of RAM with storage options of 32GB and 128GB. It gets a 12.3MP f/2.0 main camera and a front facing 8MP selfie shooter. It also had a Pixel Launcher and this style is now adopted on more smartphones including Android One devices.
However, the sad reality is that it’s unlikely we’ll get it here officially. The original Google Pixel and Pixel XL only went on sale in a handful of countries such as Australia, Canada, Germany, United States, United Kingdom and India.
