Fitbit’s first fitness headphones doesn’t track your exercise

Apart from announcing the Ionic smartwatch, Fitbit has also revealed their first fitness in-ear headphones that’s called the Fitbit Flyer. Designed for those with an active lifestyle, the Fitbit Flyer is wireless and it is both sweat and splash resistant.

Fitbit Flyer Wireless Fitness Headphones

The Flyer is quite similar to a Jabra Sport Coach where it has a cord connecting both left and right earpiece with a controller in between. From this controller, you can manage your calls as well as your music playback.

To make sure it doesn’t come off during intensive workouts, the Flyer is customisable with various detachable wings and fins for a perfect fit. In terms of connectivity, it can connect up to two bluetooth devices simultaneously, so you can switch from one device to another instantly.

The Flyer could save up to 8 Bluetooth devices so you can connect seamlessly on other devices without the need of re-pairing. On top of that, it also supports digital voice assistants such as Cortana, Google Assistant and Siri.

Fitbit is boasting premium wireless audio with its AAC Wireless Codec and Waves MaxxAudio enhancement. There are two sound settings which you can switch on the fly – Signature for normal music listening and Power Boost if you prefer heavier bass and enhanced stereo feel. To keep external noise to a minimum, it has passive noise insulation and two mics for clearer voice calls.

A full charge on the Flyer can provide up to 6 hours of playtime and it supports quick charging via microUSB. A quick 15-minute charge is rated to push an hour of playback.

Despite being a fitness headphone, it lacks any tracking features such as steps or heart rate monitoring, and there’s a good reason for that. Apparently, the Flyer is meant to be a companion device alongside the Fitbit Ionic smartwatch. The Flyer also supports audio coaching but it is accessible via the Fitbit Coach app on your smartphone. So overall, it is quite a basic wireless headphone and it doesn’t carry as many sensors compared to a Samsung Gear IconX or a Jabra Sport Pulse.

The Fitbit flyer will be available globally beginning October 2017 and it will be priced at US$129.95, which is about RM555 in our local currently.

Fitbit Aria 2 smart scale

Fitbit has also updated its smart weighing scale with its new Aria 2. Sporting a fresh new design, the Aria 2 has been reengineered for better accuracy and easier setup than before. It can support up to 8 different user profiles with tracking for body weight, body fat percentage, lean mass and BMI. Your progress can be viewed on the Fitbit app and it syncs with the smart scale via Bluetooth.

The Fitbit Aria 2 is also priced at US$129.95 (around RM555) and it will be available in the United States beginning Fall (between September and December) this year.
