Samsung Galaxy Note8 hardware specs revealed

Barely 3 weeks away to the launch of the Samsung Galaxy Note8, serial leakster Evan Blass (aka @evleaks) has revealed what seems to be the final specs of the upcoming flagship phablet. We’ve seen what the Galaxy Note8 will look like and now it’s time we find out what goes under the hood.

According to Evan’s information, the Galaxy Note8 will resemble closely with the current Galaxy S8+ but it will get significant upgrades especially in the camera department. Powering the device is still an Exynos 8895 processor for international markets and a Snapdragon 835 processor for the US. As expected, RAM is now bumped up to 6GB and it comes with 64GB of onboard storage which is expandable via microSD.

The screen is slightly bigger than the Galaxy S8+ with a 6.3” SuperAMOLED display and it also gets the same 18.5:9 display aspect ratio that pushes a 2960×1440 pixels resolution. The Galaxy Note8 is slightly thicker at 8.5mm (Galaxy S8+: 8.1mm) which is probably due to the S Pen’s silo and it gets IP68 dust and water resistance as standard.

The dual-cameras at the rear is the star of the show. Despite what we’ve seen earlier, Evan confirms that it would feature two 12MP sensors with f/1.7 and f/2.4 lens respectively. The main camera takes wide-angle shots with a dual-pixel sensor while the second lens is used for telephoto with a 2X Optical Zoom. If it does come with 3X Zoom, it would likely be a hybrid one similar to Huawei’s 2nd generation dual-camera system.

Interestingly, both cameras are optically stabilised which makes it great for clearer photos when zooming in. As a comparison, the ASUS ZenFone 3 Zoom and iPhone 7 Plus only gets OIS for the main camera but it is lacking on the secondary telephoto camera. For selfies, it gets an 8MP f/1.7 auto-focus camera which is similar as the current Galaxy S8/S8+.

On the downside, the Galaxy Note8 gets a smaller battery at 3,300mAh which is 200mAh less than the Galaxy S8+. With a slightly larger screen, more RAM and potentially high utilisation due to the S-Pen, it seems that the battery life would be shorter than the Galaxy S8+ which is currently capable for a full day of use on a single charge. As usual, it comes with wireless charging and support for Samsung’s own adaptive fast charging.

Pricing wise, the Galaxy Note8 is said to retail at 1,000EUR which is 100EUR more than the Galaxy S8+ at 899EUR. With the Galaxy S8+ currently retailing at RM3,699 in Malaysia, this could be the most expensive Note yet that could hit the RM4,000 mark. The Samsung Galaxy Note8 is launching on 23 August in New York and it will be streamed live at 11:00PM Malaysian Time.
