Moto Z2 Force is a dual-camera flagship with a shatter-proof screen

Following the launch of the Moto Z2 Play, Motorola has finally released the Z2 Force, a real flagship smartphone that comes with a tougher screen. Apart from having top of the line specs, the Moto Z2 Force features Moto ShatterShield that’s guaranteed not to crack or shatter during accidental drops.

The design of the Moto Z2 Force is similar to the rest of its Moto Z family but it packs with better hardware than before. The front display is a 5.5″ Quad HD AMOLED screen and it runs on a Snapdragon 835 processor with 4GB of RAM. On-board it gets 64GB of storage which can be expanded via microSD up to 2TB.

This time, the Moto Z2 Force comes with dual 12MP main cameras which consist of one RGB and one monochrome sensor. The dual-camera set up offers depth-of-field effects as well as a dedicated monochrome mode. For selfies, it comes with a 5MP shooter upfront.

For better durability, the Moto Z2 Force uses 7000 series aluminium for its frame but unfortunately, there’s no water resistance like the rest of its rivals. Instead, there’s added nano coating for protection against accidental spills.

Repairing a cracked screen can be very costly on flagship devices especially if it’s curved. On the Moto Z2 Force, the display is protected by a ShatterShield layer which was also featured on their shatter-proof Moto X Force. Of course, the trade-off is that this layer is made out of plastic so it’s more prone to scratching compared to glass.

According to the fine print on Moto Z2 Force product page, the display and embedded lens are warranted against shattering and cracking for up to 4 years. It is also mentioned that the Z2 Force isn’t shockproof, so you don’t expect it to withstand drops like a CAT S60.

Powering the Moto Z2 Force is a 2,730mAh which supports Motorola’s TurboPower fast charging via USB Type-C. At the moment, it runs on Android 7.1.1 Nougat and it will be upgradable to the upcoming Android O once it is available.

The Moto Z2 Force is priced at US$799.99 (about RM3,427) and they are giving a free Insta-Share Protector Moto Mod (worth US$299.99) in the US while stocks last. It will be released in Mexico, Brazil and selected countries in Europe, Middle East and Africa later this summer.

Like the rest of the Moto Z family, the Z2 Force will support its current range of Moto Mods. Motorola has also finally announced its new 360 camera moto Mod which lets you shoot and share 360 video and photos from your phone. It has two cameras on each side which can shoot 360 videos in 4K along with 3D sound. To take a wider selfie, you can use it as a 150 degree ultra wide-angle camera for group shots. The Moto 360 camera costs US$299.99 (about RM1,285) which is the same price as their projector and HasselBlad 10X Optical Zoom Camera Mod.
