LG introduces a compact 5.2″ flagship smartphone with IP67 water resistance

LG seems to be launching smaller phones of its current flagships. After anouncing the LG Q6, which is basically a budget version of their LG G6, the Korean smartphone maker is now introducing the LG Q8, which is a “mini flagship” version of its LG V20 phablet.

The design and features look identical to the V20 but it comes in a smaller form factor. Instead of a 5.7″ screen, the LG Q8 comes with a 5.2″ IPS display that still pushes a high 2560×1440 Quad HD resolution. The display has a brightness of 500 nits and it is protected by Gorilla Glass 4.

In addition, it also retains a secondary 1040×160 screen that’s used for shortcuts and notification. Under the hood, it gets a Snapdragon 820 processor with 4GB RAM and has 32GB of UFS internal storage. It also accepts microSD expansion up to 2TB.

In the camera department, the LG Q8 comes with a 13MP f/1.8 main camera for normal shots and a wide-angle 8MP f/2.4 camera that comes with a 135-degree angle. Over at the front, it has a 5MP f/1.9 selfie shooter. Similar to its bigger brother, the Q8 comes with a Quad DAC for better audio.

The LG Q8 runs on Android 7.0 Nougat and it is powered by a 3,000mAh battery which isn’t removable but it charges via USB Type-C. Another new addition to the LG Q8 is IP67 water resistance which can withstand submersion up to 1 metre for not more than 30 minutes.

So far there are no details of its availability outside of Europe, but if you’re interested in the bigger LG V20, it is available now in Malaysia for under RM2,000.
