Huawei’s taking Fitbit head on with the Band 2 and Band 2 Pro

As if it wasn’t clear enough that Huawei’s all about fitness with their wearables, the Chinese company has unveiled yet another pair of fitness-centric smart wearables and they’re designed to take on Fitbit’s Charge 2. Meet the Huawei Band 2 and Band 2 Pro.

Coming off the sporty Huawei Watch 2, the Huawei Band 2 and Band 2 Pro take on a much sleeker look. While the Watch 2 is a bulky smartwatch that takes up a lot of real estate on your wrist, the Band 2 and Band 2 Pro definitely adopts a more Fitbit-like approach to aesthetics and fit. I suppose that’s apt considering its name.

Being fitness trackers, the Band 2 and Band 2 Pro will be able to track your usual suite of parameters like heart rate, pace, distance, speed and direction. But that’s not all, on the Band 2 Pro, you will also get access to VO2 Max insights.

This means that the wearable will be able to examine the maximum rate at which the body can import oxygen, transfer it to muscles, and use it as a source of energy. Apparently, this band will be able to measure your VO2 Max with an accuracy of nearly 95%.

What’s more, you can also bring the Honor Band 2 and Band 2 Pro for a swim as they’re rated to be able to withstand water pressures of up to 5ATM (50 metres).

Huawei has also included a Training Effect feature that will give you information regarding how an exercise session impacted your fitness level and will even estimate the recovery time needed before your next workout session. With the Huawei Band 2 Pro, you will get access to Huawei’s TruSleep insights and breathing coach.

The Pro variant also packs a built-in GPS tracker which is a big step up from Fitbit’s Charge and Alta range of devices. In fact, the Charge 2 only offers connected GPS tracking through your smartphone.

For now, there’s no information on pricing and availability yet, so stay tuned for more information.
